According to a study of 32,690 workers, 43% of high working level positions are held by women, compared with 57% of men.
With data referring to 2009, the study 'working careers of women in positions of high-skilled', released today, states that the wage gap is still an unresolved issue: the average difference between men and women in this segment reached 31, 8% when the whole population is 22%.
The data confirm that the characteristics of men and women in highly skilled positions are similar: age between 35 and 44 years; belonging to a family in which the spouse is gainfully employed; complete with a permanent contract in a large consolidated company time.
However, the main difference lies in the wage gap. Secretary of State for Equality, Laura Seara, explained today that this mainly reflects the fact that "the higher wage category there are more variables that are out of compensation agreements, objectives, availability or profit sharing."
Behind the figures lies, as always, the great cause of gender discrimination in the workplace: maternity. The employment experiences of women are more unstable and discontinuous, with a high-probability low, which worsens in women between 35 and 44 years. In this age range are penalized motherhood, and even, according to the report, the mere possibility of having children negatively affects stability.
Secretary General of the Council of Chambers of Commerce, Carmen de Miguel and study coordinator, Maribel Martinez, also participated in the presentation of this, which is based on the Continuous Sample of Working Lives, prepared by the Social Security.
